Beamish is a world famous open air museum. We tell the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s.

Step back in time to see for yourself what life was like in the North East at Beamish, one of Durham’s hottest tourist attractions.

Beamish is a living and working open-air museum which transports you back to the 1820s, 1910s and 1940s to celebrate the region’s rich heritage, brought to life by people dressed in authentic costumes.

Beamish stands in 300 acres of beautiful County Durham countryside. With so many things to see, Beamish is a wonderful day out for people of all ages.

You can then enjoy a full day at Beamish, visit the many attractions Beamish has to offer from a working Farm, complete with log/coal fire and the welcoming smell of freshly baked bread, visit the town with its array of Victorian Shops, see how they used to shop in times gone by. Or for the kiddies, visit the School where the children can take part in a lesson using blackboard and chalk, no ipads in those days! Navigate your way around using the many trams and old style buses, a vast area to cover and so much to see and do.We depart Beamish at 5pm for the journey home. Arriving back in the local area early in the evening.

Beamish is a living, working museum, set in 300 acres of beautiful Durham countryside. Costumed folk bring to life the Town, Pit Village, Home Farm and Pockerley Old Hall.

Experience firsthand how the Industrial Revolution transformed agricultural life in the region. The buildings you see at Beamish are not replicas, but have been brought, brick by brick, from around the region and rebuilt to give visitors a real sense of history.
